IN MEMORY OF MY FATHER
A sardonic, morbid, uniquely inspired film-within-a-film with a stand-out ensemble cast, spot-on dialogue and even a touch of genuine sentiment, In Memory of My Father redefines the tiring dysfunctional family “dramedy.” Granting his father’s wish to film the ailing patriarch’s dying day, youngest son Chris (Director Christopher Jaymes) makes a lukewarm effort to film between his angst-filled twenty-something antics. Meanwhile, brother Jeremy (Six Feet Under’s Jeremy Sisto) drops Ecstasy and speculates as to whether his wife is a lesbian while eldest brother Matt (Matt Keeslar) tests the sexual boundaries of the family’s inner-circle. Occasionally, they remember the recently deceased (decomposing upstairs) and appear briefly melancholy or belt out a heartfelt rendition of “Daddy’s Dead.” A hilariously scathing commentary, Jaymes’ infectious feature debut was a Jury Award winner at CineVegas.
